Description
String of Pearls (Senecio rowleyanus) is a highly decorative trailing succulent known for its distinctive round, bead-like leaves that resemble a strand of green pearls. Its long, cascading vines make it ideal for hanging baskets, high shelves, and areas where its trailing habit can be displayed fully.
This plant thrives in bright light, preferably with a few hours of gentle morning sun. Indoors, place it near a bright window to maintain the compact shape and vibrant colour. Too little light will cause stretching and sparse growth.
Watering should be done sparingly. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, as the pearls store water and are sensitive to overwatering. Use a fast-draining succulent mix to prevent root rot. Water less frequently in winter when the plant is dormant.
String of Pearls prefers warm temperatures and good airflow, and does best when not disturbed too often. During the growing season, you can feed lightly with a diluted succulent fertiliser once a month.
When cared for correctly, this plant grows long, lush strands that bring texture and movement into any indoor space. It is a favourite for modern interiors, plant shelves, and hanging displays.
