Description

Peperomia prostrata, commonly known as String of Turtles, is a highly decorative trailing plant prized for its tiny round leaves marked with intricate patterns that look like miniature turtle shells. Its fine cascading vines make it perfect for hanging pots, shelves, terrariums, and small decorative spaces.

This plant grows best in bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun can scorch the delicate foliage, while too little light may cause the patterns to fade and the vines to stretch. Indoors, a bright window with filtered light is ideal.

String of Turtles prefers light, consistent moisture, but it is not a succulent. Allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly before watering again. Avoid waterlogging by using a well-draining mix—a combination of potting soil, perlite, and fine bark works well for its shallow, sensitive roots.

This plant enjoys higher humidity, making it well suited for bathrooms, kitchens, or terrarium environments. It also prefers warm, stable temperatures and should be protected from cold drafts.

Feed lightly once a month during spring and summer with a diluted indoor plant fertiliser to encourage steady growth. Its compact vines remain elegant and manageable, making it a favourite among collectors and indoor gardeners.

With the right care, String of Turtles forms dense, patterned trails that add a unique, textural accent to any plant display.
