Description
Light:
Polka Dot Begonias thrive in bright, indirect light. They love good light but never direct sun — the leaves scorch easily. In low light, they lose their spots and become leggy. Place near a bright window with filtered light.
Watering:
Keep the soil lightly moist, watering when the top 2 cm feels dry.
Do NOT let the plant sit in water — this causes root rot quickly.
In winter, reduce watering slightly, but don’t allow the soil to completely dry out.
Soil & Potting:
Use a well-draining, airy mix (potting soil + perlite + a bit of bark works perfectly).
Begonias have delicate roots and prefer smaller pots. Repot only when the plant becomes root-bound.
Temperature & Humidity:
Ideal temperature: 18–26°C.
They love high humidity, but avoid misting directly on leaves as this can cause powdery mildew.
Best methods: pebble tray, humidifier, or grouping with other plants.
Fertilization:
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced or foliage-boost fertiliser.
Skip fertilising in winter.
Pruning & Growth Habit:
This plant grows upright with cane-like stems and dotted leaves.
Prune the tips to encourage a bushier shape. Remove yellow or dry leaves to keep it tidy.
