Indoor Plants – The Cheapest Therapy You’ll Ever Buy

I don’t know who needs to hear this… but buying another indoor plant is almost always the right decision.

Indoor plants have this magical way of making a room look lakka, like you’ve got your life together. You could have washing on the couch, dishes in the sink, and absolutely no idea what’s for supper… but if there’s a gorgeous Monstera in the corner? Suddenly you’re sophisticated.

Indoor plants are simply plants that are grown inside your home, office, restaurant, salon, or anywhere that could do with a little less “meh” and a little more “wow”. They bring colour, life, and personality into a space, and some even help improve air quality. They’re basically the quiet friends who ask for very little and still make you feel better.

Whether you’re looking for a statement plant that makes visitors say “Wow!”, a little desk buddy to keep you company while you answer emails, or you’re planning to turn your house into the indoor jungle you’ve been secretly dreaming about… we’ve got you covered.

And just a little warning…

Nobody… and I mean nobody… buys just one indoor plant.

You come in for one.

Then it needs a friend.

Then the friend looks lonely.

Next thing you’re explaining to your family that the dining room wasn’t really being used anyway.

Welcome to the club. We have plants.

Outdoor Plants

Outdoor Plants – Because Your Garden Shouldn’t Look Like It Gave Up

Your garden is the first thing people see when they visit. It’s also the first thing the neighbours see. No pressure.

Outdoor plants are the backbone of any beautiful garden. They’re the trees that give you shade on a hot summer’s day, the shrubs that flower when everything else looks miserable, the groundcovers that hide the spots you keep meaning to fix, and the colourful flowers that make people slow down and have a second look.

The best part? They don’t just make your garden prettier—they make you happier. There’s something incredibly satisfying about standing back with a cup of coffee and thinking, “I planted that.” Even if all you actually did was point and tell someone where to put it.

At Sylvia Pass Nursery, we’ve got outdoor plants for every type of gardener. Whether you’ve got a tiny courtyard, a massive garden, a balcony, or a patch of soil that currently resembles the Sahara Desert, we’ll help you find the right plants for your space.

We’ll also ask the annoying questions that actually matter…
How much sun does it get?
Who remembers to water?
Do you have dogs?
Are you looking for colour all year round or something that flowers for a season?

Why? Because we’d rather sell you the right plant than watch you come back next month carrying a crispy stick in a pot asking, “Can you save it?”

Gardening isn’t about having the perfect garden. It’s about getting your hands dirty, making a few mistakes, learning as you go, and occasionally standing outside admiring your handiwork while pretending you’re on the cover of a gardening magazine.

Just remember…

A garden is never finished.

There’s always room for one more plant.

Trust me… I know.

Trees – Because Every Great Garden Starts With One

Trees are a bit like children… they start off small, they grow faster than you expect, and before you know it they’re taking over the whole yard.

Whether you’re looking for shade, colourful flowers, privacy, fruit trees or a feature tree that steals the show, we’ve got a great selection to choose from.

Can’t find the tree you’re after? Don’t panic! I don’t stock every tree under the sun (I’d need another five hectares for that), but I can source most varieties from trusted growers. Just let me know what you’re looking for, and I’ll do my best to find it.

Not sure what to plant? Come have a chat. I’ll help you choose the right tree for your space, because buying the wrong tree is a bit like buying shoes three sizes too small… it might seem like a good idea at the time, but you’ll regret it later!

TREES

Herbs – Because Paying R35 for Three Sprigs of Rosemary Feels a Bit Personal

Have you noticed? The minute a recipe asks for “fresh herbs,” suddenly you’re paying a small fortune for a little plastic packet that’s half wilted before you get home.

Growing your own herbs is easier than most people think. Whether it’s basil, rosemary, parsley, thyme, mint, oregano or coriander, there’s nothing better than walking into your garden, snipping off what you need, and pretending you’re on a cooking show.

At Sylvia Pass Nursery, we stock a variety of herbs throughout the year, and if you’re looking for something specific that we don’t have, just ask. I’ll happily source it for you if I can.

The best part? Herbs don’t just taste good—they smell amazing, attract pollinators, and make you look like you really know what you’re doing in the kitchen… even if dinner still ends up being toasted sandwiches.

Start with one…

You’ll be making your own herb garden before you know it.

Seedlings

Don’t let their size fool you… today’s little seedling is tomorrow’s salad, flower bed, or tomato that somehow tastes better simply because you grew it yourself.

Seedlings are the easiest (and cheapest) way to fill your garden with vegetables, herbs and flowers. Watching them grow from tiny plants into something amazing is half the fun… the other half is telling everyone, “I grew that!”

At Sylvia Pass Nursery, we stock a variety of seasonal seedlings, and if you’re after something specific that isn’t on our shelves, just let me know. If I can source it, I will.

Just one piece of advice…

Don’t plant all twelve lettuce seedlings if there’s only two of you at home.

Unless you’re planning on opening a salad bar.

Happy planting!

Graham builds the garden bed, and Sylvia Pass Nursery takes care of the rest. We provide the soil and select the right seasonal plants for the space and time of year. You can choose to take everything home and plant it yourself, or let us install and plant the complete garden bed for you.

An allotment is your own dedicated gardening space where you can grow whatever you love. Whether it’s vegetables, herbs, flowers, fruit, indigenous plants, or a little bit of everything, your allotment is yours to design and enjoy.
At Sylvia Pass Nursery, you can rent an allotment and experience the joy of gardening without needing space at home. It’s perfect for anyone who lives in a townhouse or apartment, wants a larger garden, or simply enjoys spending time outdoors. We can help you with soil, plants, seasonal advice, and everything you need to make your garden thrive.

Garden Essentials

Garden Essentials – Because Plants Can’t Survive on Love Alone

We’ve all done it… bought the beautiful plant and then realised we have absolutely nothing to put it in, feed it with, or water it.

Don’t worry… we’ve got you covered!

At Sylvia Pass Nursery, we stock a wide range of garden essentials, including pots and planters, potting soil, compost, bark, mulch, fertilisers, plant food, pebbles, decorative stone, gardening tools, watering cans and all those little bits and pieces you only remember you need once you’ve got home.

And if we don’t have exactly what you’re looking for? Just ask! I can source most products through my trusted suppliers, so there’s no need to spend your whole Saturday driving from nursery to nursery.

My philosophy is simple…

If you can grow it, feed it, water it, pot it, or make it look prettier… chances are I can help you find it.

One stop. Less stress. More gardening.

Home & Gifts – Because Sometimes You Go Out for a Plant… and Come Home With Half the Shop

Let’s be honest… plants have a way of making you wander. One minute you’re looking at a fern, the next you’re holding a candle, a gorgeous pot, a garden ornament and wondering where you’re going to put it all.

At Sylvia Pass Nursery, you’ll find more than just plants. We stock a beautiful selection of home décor, unique plant gifts, gift vouchers, candles, macramé, handmade products, garden ornaments and other treasures that catch your eye when you least expect it.

Looking for a birthday gift? A housewarming present? Something for the person who already has everything? We’ve got plenty of ideas that are a little different.

Can’t make it to the nursery? Don’t stress! We can deliver your plants, gifts and goodies straight to your door. We deliver throughout Johannesburg and surrounding areas, with the delivery fee quoted based on your location.

And if there’s something specific you’re after that you can’t find in the nursery, just ask. If I can source it, I will.

Fair warning though…

You might arrive needing one plant…

…and leave with a boot full of things you didn’t know you absolutely needed.

No regrets.

Plant Rescue – Because Not Every Sad Plant Is Dead

Before you throw your plant in the bin… bring it to me!

One of the most common things I hear is, “I think it’s dead.” Most of the time it isn’t. It’s just thirsty, overwatered, root-bound, getting too much sun, not enough sun, or simply throwing a bit of a tantrum.

Our Plant Rescue service is all about giving your plant the best chance of making a comeback. Bring it in and I’ll have a look, explain what’s going on, and recommend the best treatment. If it can be saved, we’ll do everything we can to help.

No lectures. No judging. We’ve all accidentally loved a plant a little too much… or forgotten about it completely.

If your plant is beyond saving (it happens), I’ll tell you honestly. And if it just needs a little TLC, we’ll get it back on the road to recovery.

Remember…

Plants don’t come with instruction manuals…

That’s what I’m here for.

Repotting – Because Your Plant Has Officially Outgrown Its Pants

If your plant’s roots are climbing out the bottom of the pot, the soil disappears every time you water it, or it looks like it’s trying to escape… it’s probably time for a new home.

Repotting gives your plant fresh soil, more room to grow, and a fresh start. It’s amazing what a difference the right pot and quality soil can make.

I like to dedicate Saturdays to repotting, so if you’ve got a few plants that need some love, bring them along! It’s become our unofficial “spa day” for plants. That said, if Saturday doesn’t work for you, don’t worry—we’re happy to repot your plants any day of the week.

Whether it’s one little plant or a car full of them, we’ll make sure they’re repotted properly using the right soil and the right-sized pot.

Just don’t be surprised if your plant comes back looking happier than you do after a weekend away.

Garden Consultations – Because Google Doesn’t Know What Your Garden Looks Like

So u stood in the nursery wondering what to buy, only to get home and realise the plant hates the exact spot you bought it for.

A garden consultation takes the guesswork out of gardening.

Whether you’re starting from scratch, wanting to refresh an existing garden, struggling to get things to grow, or simply don’t know where to begin, I’m here to help. We’ll chat about your space, your budget, your lifestyle, and what you want your garden to become.

I won’t try to sell you every plant in the nursery. My goal is to help you choose the right plants for the right place, so your garden thrives for years to come.

Need something specific? I can also source plants that may not be in stock, giving you even more options to create the garden you’ve been dreaming about.

Because let’s face it…

Buying random plants and hoping for the best is a bit like online dating.

Sometimes it works…

Most of the time, it’s just expensive disappointment.
